(13) Hadrians Recess. 45 feet Severe.
Commences in the right hand corner of the west face of
the buttress. Climb in this corner, traversing left to the recess
proper, remaining in the recess until the top platform is
attained. The direct start is also possible.
((14) Hadrians Buttress. 50 feet. Severe.
The climb commences at the foot of the west face. Climb
the face diagonally left to the edge, back right and up the
line of a crack until forced to the right to finish up two matleshelves
on to the top.
(15) Hadrians Chimney. 55 feet. Severe.
Commence on the prominent V-groove on the north face
of the buttress. Climb on small holds until a good handhold
on the chockstone is secured. Enter the chimney proper and
climb on better hods to the top.
(16) Hadrians East. 60 feet. Very Difficult.
Commences about 10 feet to the left of the chimney. Climb
straight up the broken face to the top of the Crag.
Alternatively, traverse diagonally right to the top of the chimney.
(17)Ash Tree Buttress. 25 feet. Very Difficult.
An interesting problem. Above 15 yards east of the foot
of Hadrians Buttress, it lies at the top of a grassy bay. It
can be identified by the Ash Tree growing out of a crack at
its foot. The climb starts at the foot of this crack, continues
up diagonally behind the tree and then straight up to the top.
(18) Tarzan 70 feet, Very Difficult.
Climb the right hand cleft to a ledge and
traverse left to the foot of a short chockstone chimney.
Climb up this to a spacious platform. Strenuous.
Block Belay. Continue up the wall behind the block,
trending right to the top of the Crag.
Direct Start 25 feet. Severe. Climb the left wall
to the foot of the chockstone chimney.
(19) Tarzans Mate. 70 feet Very Difficult.
Start on the left side of the buttress, traverse
right round the arete on to an earthy platform.
Climb straight up the Tarzan. Finish as for Tarzan.
Direct Starts
(1) 15 feet. Severe, Start two yards to the left of the lowest
point of the buttress. Climb the narrow prominent crack
to the earth platform.
(2) 15 feet. Very Diffficult. The arete to the immediate left
of the crack also leads to the earth platform.
(20) Jezebel. 70 feet Difficult.
This route lies on the first large buttress to the right
of the Cairn. Start in a groove, split by a rib, on the left side of the buttress.
From the top of the groove traverse right and ascend to a ledge. Belay.
From the left side of the ledge climb the wall to another ledge, continue
up the corner to the top of the Crag.
Variation starts
(1) Climb to the first ledge by ascending a steep rock staircase on the right
(2) Climb to the first ledge by scrambling and a short wall on the left.
(21) Ravens Tower. 60 feet. Very Severe.
The steep narrow buttress behind the cairn. Climb to the
gap behind the perched block in front of the tower. From
here a delicate movement right leads into the crack on the right
face of the buttress. This leads to the top of the tower. Very
exposed.
